Flute Alliance is comprised of long-time music professionals.
Denise Westby, founder, brings together musicians and educators who desire to share their knowledge with flutists of all ages.  Although most activities are designed around flutists, there are also other general music opportunities for those interested in developing their knowledge of music.

Important Flute Alliance Contributors
Flute Alliance is comprised of many professional musicians who work together to educate and enlighten.  You may meet them at Flute Boot Camp, BreakAway Flutists Vacations, Boot Camp Coda Masterclasses, or other Flute Alliance Special events.  Below are just some of those fantastic flutists who have played an important part in Flute Alliance as coaches, performers, or composers!

Dawn Weiss

Dawn Weiss is a noted orchestral and solo flutist as well as recording artist.  Principal Flute with the Oregon Symphony from 1980-2005, Dawn brings an innate sense of what it takes to be a successful performing flutist in many genres. Dawn has enjoyed sharing her well-developed ability to practice yoga along with music with the many Flute Boot Camp students during her tenure as a camp coach.

Composer and contra-bass player, Phyllis Louke

Phyllis Avidan Louke is an active flutist, composer, and educator living right here in Portland.  Because her compositions span the levels from beginners to the advanced player, her pieces are often part of Flute Boot Camp.  Phyllis has also come to camp to introduce us to her rare contra-bass flute which she has named, Conrad.

Laila Murphy performs and educates at Boot Camp 2010

Laila Murphy provided her ideas on phrasing using music from all eras.  She is a talented freelance performer, concentrating on the flute and guitar duo that she is in with Yohannes Murphy.  Additionally, she is a studio musician and teacher.
